Koh Samui is a lush destination for exploring one of Thailand’s islands. Its size means you can drive around it in roughly one hour. It’s also an island that attracts budget travellers to those wanting to indulge in luxury resorts. I stayed in Conrad Koh Samui for one night in August 2016. All the rooms are private pool villas. The views of the five islands from the lobby are glorious. Although, the wether was quite windy so high up to really enjoy the view.
We were offered welcome drinks in the reception lobby overlooking the five islands. This was a lovely touch as they sorted our luggage, details and other bits and bobs.
As we were staying during full occupancy, our room was not ready until about 5pm. Most guests were advised to wait in the library or bar until their room was ready. Fortunately, I had pre-booked one of their complimentary snorkelling trips so no waiting around, but rather exploring a small island from Koh Samui, Madsum island, snorkel with amazing fish and rest on a secluded beach.
Back at the hotel, our room was finally ready. First look at the room, and I was blown away by the sheer size of it. The bed faced the amazing view of the infinity pool and the five islands. There was large comfortable desk on the side and also a cosy sofa with welcome macaroons on the table.
The bathroom itself was the size of an average hotel room! A lovely round bathtub very generously sized was the centrepiece. Two sinks stood behind the bath which meant you get the amazing view whilst getting ready too. There was also a separate shower and toilet closed off behind the sinks. the shower had excellent water pressure and you could still see the amazing views.
The highlight of Conrad Koh Samui is that all rooms are private pool villas. Most guests usually just stay in their villas because of this. Besides the snorkelling trip and dinner at the Zest restaurant, we did this too. The pools are quite large for a private villa and the infinity edge just makes the view stand out even more.
As you can see, the pools are walled on either side, giving complete privacy. The views of the sun nearly coming down were glorious and I didn’t feel like leaving the pool at all!
We initially wanted to have dinner in Jahn restaurant in Conrad but they were fully booked, so chose Zest instead. Dinner at Zest was lovely with the stars shining against the blanket of the sky as we sat outside of the restaurant. The day we went, there a buffet dinner but we declined and chose from the set menu. The food was delicious and presented very well.
Breakfast at Zest was pretty good, and there were a variety of options available with a choice of hot drinks and a chef making your choice of egg from the menu. Breakfast was free for us through Hilton gold status, but cash prices when booking wee nearly coming to £50!
We only stayed for one night but I have to say the experience was worth it. I would definitely go again but maybe stay only 2 or 3 nights as a detox relaxing trip. It was a different experience staying in a 5 star luxury private pool villa but there were some gripes I had which I will leave in the future post.
